It is a system of natural medicine that originated in Germany over 200 years ago and is used all over the world. It is a form of medicine recognized by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Homeopathy supports wellness and boosts vitality by giving a gentle, energetic nudge to the life force. As a result, it can help relieve symptoms, whether it be an acute illness, injury, or chronic condition.
Homeopathy is the most sustainable medicine in the world. It is non-toxic and can be used with plants, animals, insects, and small children.
Homeopathy is a system of medicine that is unique in itself. It is holistic and takes into account a person's overall mental, physical, and emotional state and matches them to the best fitting remedy (there are over 7900 remedies!). Homeopathy is not supplements, herbalism, Chinese medicine, "home" remedies, or essential oils. It is complimentary to traditional healthcare and often fills in gaps that modern medicine cannot, and without interactions.
Homeopathic remedies are "proven" on healthy persons, unlike traditional medicines that are tested on those that are ill in clinical trials. In a homeopathic proving, a healthy person takes just enough doses of a remedy to produce temporary energetic symptoms, and then very thorough notes are taken in observation of the person's physical symptoms, emotions, and dreams. A homeopath then uses that information to recognize the energetic pattern of a person who is ill and match them to a particular remedy. It is based on the Law of Similars or "like cures like."
"Dis-ease causes disease."
Homeopathy recognizes that the environment, emotional upsets, and events can throw the life force off track and become unbalanced. Symptoms occur as the body's attempt to restore balance (such as chronic migraines after losing a loved one, or the occurrence of asthma after suppressing a rash). A well-selected remedy will bring balance to the life force, which then has no need to produce symptoms.
Homeopathy uses a person-centered approach to determine which remedy and potency is the best fit. It recognizes that each person's experience of life is different than anyone else's, and so a remedy is selected to fit a person's symptoms. This is unlike traditional healthcare, which often attempts to fit a person to a standard protocol.
When recommending a remedy, homeopathy uses the theory that "less is more" in terms of dosing. The idea is to take as few doses as necessary to stimulate a healing response and then stop. The body will continue to use the remedy in the way it needs. Only if symptoms slowly start returning should another dose be considered. It is highly recommended to see a professional homeopath if unsure of dosing or remedy use. This is unlike conventional medicine, which typically tries to suppress symptoms with repeat doses.
This system of medicine was based on the "law of similars" and created by a German physician named Samuel Hahnemann (April 10th, 1755 - July 2nd, 1843). He first wrote about and introduced the concept in 1796. He had left medical practice upon seeing treatments of the time were causing more harm than good, and found work by translating books. While in the process of translating Lectures on the Material Medica by William Cullen, he realized the poisoning symptoms of quinine from the bark of a cinchona tree produced symptoms that were very similar to malaria, for which physicians at the time gave quinine. This led him to theorize the concept of "like cures like" based off of the totality of symptoms. So, Hahnemann tested the substance (in a diluted form and minimal dose) on himself, and the concept of homeopathy was born.
Homeopathy has truly shined in its history during epidemics. In the case of the Flu outbreak in 1918, those treated with homeopathy had a low mortality rate of 2.1-5%, whereas conventional medicine had a mortality rate of 40-60%. Reference: https://www.lidsen.com/journals/icm/icm-06-04-045
In a large study of the epidemic of Leptospirosis in Cuba, 96% of the population was given a prophylactic dose of a homeopathic medicine. In the areas that normally would have been hit the hardest by the epidemic, there was an 84% decrease of the disease incidence. Meanwhile in areas where disease incidence was typically low and no homeopathic intervention was given, the incidence rose 22%. The cost to provide the homeopathic prophylactic was only 2% of the cost to produce a vaccine on the island. Did you know in Iowa there was a University of Iowa Homeopathic Medical Hospital until the year 1919? It was located at the corner of Jefferson and Dubuque Streets.
Homeopathy is one of the most widely used systems of medicine in the world and is quickly growing in popularity.
Yes and no. Homeopathic remedies to produce temporary energetic side effects if given in too high of a potency or too-frequently repeated doses (this is used as a benefit to determine the scope of influence of a remedy in homeopathic provings). In the case of a well-selected remedy for a person, if it is given too frequently or too high of a potency, the recipient may develop a temporary worsening of symptoms before they begin to subside. This is why classical homeopathy follows the principle of the minimum dose. Energetic side effects are not the same as a chemical side effect, which can cause pathological symptoms or harm.
Homeopathic remedies are safe, gentle, non-toxic, and effective. They are non-habit forming and non-drowsy. The pellets used by Homeopathic Remedy Apothecary are made of 100% organic cane sugar.
Homeopathic remedies above 8X or 4C have a low risk of side effects. Appropriate label warnings will be provided for any low-potency remedies that may have concerns. Most products sold in this store are 30C and 200C potencies with a few 12C or 6C potencies in the selection.
Homeopathic remedies can compliment dental or medical care and can be taken with traditional medicines. ALWAYS check with your primary healthcare provider before using homeopathy for any chronic conditions.
Homeopathic remedies are considered drugs by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), who regulates their manufacturing, marketing, and sale. Homeopathic pharmacies that produce remedies are further governed by the standards of the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States.
Always check with your primary healthcare provider before using ANY over-the-counter products, including homeopathic ones. It is also recommended that you additionally see a homeopath for ongoing homeopathic support throughout the pregnancy.
You can often give homeopathic remedies in a home setting for acute injuries, sprains, sore throats, colds, flu, mild digestive upsets, etc. There are many organizations and homeopaths that will take acute calls as well if you do not feel knowledgeable enough to find the best remedy. See our providers list for referrals!
Chronic conditions require a professionally-trained homeopath or a student under the supervision of homeopathic faculty to help guide you through the process of unravelling the chronic condition. Chronic conditions may include anxiety, autism, asthma, arthritis, or depression. Often, the conditions are described as "I have never been well since ____."
Any living being has the capacity to respond to homeopathic remedies, including plants or animals. You can use remedies to help your pet for simple ailments. However, for more chronic and serious conditions, please seek out a veterinarian that is trained in homeopathy. We can provide referrals based on certain regions of the United States.
If you know any veterinarians that want to learn homeopathy, there are resources for training and scholarships! Please reach out and we can provide a referral.
While homeopathy is largely discounted or even ignored by the medical community, there are thousands of published studies that show the positive outcomes in use of homeopathy. Clinical research also shows biological activity in highly diluted homeopathic remedies. Even in agriculture, homeopathy has been used to study the growth of turnips, proving evidence beyond the placebo effect. In the agricultural study by the Homeopathy Research Institute, the turnips that were treated homeopathically had a 100% germination rate while the control group came in with an 83.5% germination rate.
